What was your inspiration for creating Grace and Lace?
My inspiration was simple. I wanted to create a pair of boot socks for myself that had some lace sticking out of the top of my boots. When I get an idea in my head, nothing stops me from finding a way to create it. And I did just that. Little did I know that my 5 hours spent on the sewing machine figuring out how to make them would turn into a major fashion statement and a business.
What keeps you motivated in business, even on the tough days?
There are two huge things that keep me motivated to keep designing and running the business. 1) The huge mission and passion in our hearts that we have linked Grace & Lace to. And that is rescuing orphans and building orphanages in India. Seeing those kids have food, clothes, beds for the first time, etc, makes every single ounce of my hard work worth it. 2) The fact that we have hired so many of our friends to work for Grace & Lace. My desire to keep them employed doing something they love keeps me going.
Who has been your biggest cheerleader during your entrepreneurial journey?
That’s easy. My husband. Long before I ever even had the business he saw something in me and believed in me and waited for what ever “it” was to come out (Entrepreneurship). Little did we know a few years later I would have an “accidental company” in the fashion industry. He’s always believed in me, often times more than I have believed in myself. He’s my biggest cheerleader.
What is your favorite quote?
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us: It’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. -Nelson Mandela
What do you picture when you think of the ideal vacation?
Mmmm…Tuscany, Italy. The Italian countryside has captured my heart. We have had the pleasure of traveling there a couple of times. There is nothing in the world like it.
What do you love most about having your own business?
The freedom to dream, to create, to act on inspiration. To see others (customers) love what I create. And to have the freedom to be able to work from home and to travel.
